Notable Signs Of Burrowing Pest Activity

If you’re noticing gophers or voles in your yard, here are some signs to look out for:

  • Mounds of soil: Gophers create mounds of soil as they burrow underground, and these mounds can be quite large and noticeable.
  • Tunnels: These burrowing pests create a network of tunnels underground, and these can sometimes be seen on the surface as well.
  • Holes: Gophers dig holes as entrances and exits to their tunnels, and these can be seen in your lawn or garden.
  • Damage to plants seeds, or bulbs: Both gophers and voles are known to eat tree bark and the roots of plants, so if you notice plants dying or wilting without an obvious reason, it could be due to gopher and/or vole activity.
  • Vegetation disappearance: Gophers are known to pull plants underground, so if you notice that plants are disappearing from your yard, it could be due to gopher activity.
  • Visible tracks: If you see small, crescent-shaped footprints in your lawn or garden, it could be a sign of gopher activity.  If you see visible small, round tracks, it could be a sign of vole activity.
  • Presence of other animals: Gophers and voles can attract predators like coyotes, snakes, and owls, so if you notice an increase in these animals in your yard, it could be due to the presence of gophers and voles.
